People Seemed Confused About Guest Blogging!

As part of the work I do to promote our services I reach out to blog (or is that bog) owners looking for content. I like writing and I like sharing my views on a range of topics, not least around the subject of web design, search marketing etc.

On a recent hunt for decent blogs I found one that stated in it's guest posting guidelines that, and I quote, "Links in Post, All links in the post body will incur a charge". WTF! So this dope is openly selling links, good luck with that!

Another blog owner I approached said "As you are operating a web design business and offering services similar to mine I cannot put any guest post on my blog that links back to your website. I'm sure you wouldn't want to post on a blog associated with another web design studio either. If you are looking at building backlinks that are relevant you should contact other blogs that are not offering identical or similar services but at the same time have readers who would be looking for your services."

It seems people are confused about guest blogging and perhaps a little insecure. Personally I'll post useful information submitted by anyone on our blog and I'm cool about linking to companies offering "similar services" as that's eh, likely to be the people able to write info our readers would find useful.

Mind you, this little exercise inspired this little mini rant so it wasn't a complete waste of time :)
